I become incredibly bored after two minutes on the treadmill. Even on those machines that make your feet swing or whatever, I count down the seconds until I can do something else. The Kardashians or the Real Housewives don’t seem to help, even CSI doesn’t do the trick.  These apps will distract you at the gym while adding some culture to your kettlebell routine.

1. Audible

What could possibly make you run faster than listening as Katniss escapes her predators? I racked up extra time as I ran along with the heroine. The idea of being in the Hunger Games in my current shape was the exact push I needed. Already read the Hunger Games? Audible has more than 100K titles. I’d be happy to provide suggestions if you need them!


2. NPR

NPR is fantastic. Don’t believe me? Try this free app to find out for yourself. You can listen to the top stories of the day or listen to the specific programs. RadioLab is a must. I was listening to it the other day and found myself smiling like an idiot while riding a stationary bike. It’s beautiful, beautiful sound that is both calming and entertaining.
