I think we all know how much I love this holiday due to the brightly colored objects that grace store shelves. Sure, Valentine’s Day was probably created by the greeting card companies, but you really can’t blame them. Haven’t you heard that the Post Office is dying?

Anyway, here are 5 movies about love and romance that you and your significant other can both enjoy. Get your rom-com fix while making sure he’s not bored to death.

1. Hitch
Do you know how much men love this movie? Men really love this movie. They talk about it a lot. They may not quote it as often as they do “Anchorman,” but it is still appreciated by the male population.

2. Zombieland
If you can’t stand gore, then skip this film. But if you like Bill Murray, Twinkies and Emma Watson, this movie is for you. It’s funny and required viewing in preparation for the zombie apocalypse (it will happen).

50-first-dates3. 50 First Dates
The last movie that Adam Sandler was in that didn’t involve cross dressing and was actually amusing. Your man will love the guy humor and you’ll love how Sandler will do anything for the woman he loves.

4. Jerry Maguire
Confession: I am not a “Jerry Maguire” fan. It’s probably because I can’t stand when Renee Zellweger opens her mouth. But most people seem to love this movie. Men like this movie because it involves football. You’ll enjoy the love story and the adorable little boy (spoiler: he isn’t that cute when he grows up). So enjoy and remind your significant other that he “had (you) at hello.”

5. Princess Bride
If a young Fred Savage enjoyed this story, then y’all will too. Any story that involves a giant, pirates, sword fights, a farm boy and Rodents of Unusual Size (R.O.U.S.) is sure to capture your attention.

It’s the first day of February and already I’m writing about Valentine’s Day? Sheesh. Someone give me a chill pill. But in all seriousness, I wrote this post like three weeks ago so I’ve obviously been excited to share it with y’all. You’re lucky I didn’t post about VDay on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not a fan of stuffed animals and boxes of chocolate, but I do love sparkles, hearts, and the color combinations of pink and red.

While I won’t be celebrating Valentine’s Day at a fancy restaurant (we prefer to avoid the crowds), I always send Valentines to my loved ones. That’s why I made these Valentines for you to download! Below you’ll see a Valentine for your crush, your best friend, or the love of your life.

Enjoy February 14th whether you are in a relationship or not. After all, the day is what you make it. Want it to be romantic? Go for it. Want to watch HGTV while drinking wine? Sounds perfect to me!

My Valentine’s Day will be spent watching “You’ve Got Mail” (the boyfriend has never seen it) and eating takeout.

2013 Resolutions

A new year means an opportunity to get my priorities straight. In the past, I have focused on my resolutions for about a week before returning to the normal routine. But this new year is different.

I’m ringing in the holiday in Idaho, away from family, so already the year is filled with change.

I’m also unemployed. I lost my job a few weeks before Christmas and I’ve been on the hunt ever since. I would normally say that being unemployed during the holiday season is awful, but it also provides a good perspective on life. Sure, I am unsure of the future, but I have so many other great things to be thankful for. I’ve also made more time for the things that I love in between job searching, like reading books and exploring DC, which has reminded me that the small things are important. For 2013, I want to remember to continue to find joy in the small things and to be happy no matter my situation.

Here’s to another fantastic year!

It’s almost Christmas! And if you are anything like my family, then you’ll be playing Mariah Carey and Bing Crosby very loudly in the days to come. I stayed up way too late on Sunday to make this incredibly long (four hours) playlist for y’all to enjoy. The best part? No song is repeated. Second best part? It’s a variety of musicians.
