I don’t know about you, but April was a busy, busy month. Although I did go to the gym,  it has been difficult to eat healthy at numerous social events. Today, I thought it would be nice to have a little reminder to love our bodies, eat healthy and get some exercise; I know I definitely need it!

Girl Crush: First Lady Michelle Obama

First Lady Michelle Obama is so amazing that we had to have two writers on this Girl Crush. She is the epitome of the perfect woman — she probably has flaws somewhere but to our eyes, we see none. Here is our list of why we have girl crushes on the FLOTUS.

1. She’s a great mother

Well, I don’t know directly if this is true, but from watching her in interviews and reading about her in the newspapers, she seems amazing. She knows to give her daughters limits. She focuses on health and knowledge. She makes it a point to have family time. And she’s “hip.” Watch this video starting at 6 minutes and you’ll see.

2. Her Take on Fashion

She has great style. No, not great, impeccable. She’s sophisticated while keeping up with the latest trends. First Lady, may I please raid your closet? She keeps it real.

She could wear any designer she wants, but one of her go-to brands is J.Crew!

You can  literally have what she is wearing — granted that everyone didn’t run to their local J.Crew and buy what she was rocking. And she also picks up-and-coming designers to help out their brand. Hello, Jason Wu got big because she wore his dress to the inauguration. He even collaborated with Target afterwards.

3. She likes to move

With a big concern on childhood obesity, she started the ‘Let’s Move!’ campaign. Her goal is to “solve the challenge of childhood obesity within a generation so that children born today will reach adulthood at a healthy weight.”
Look at her with Disney Channel’s Debbie Ryan and Perry the Platypus. This just made your day better.
I love how she isn’t afraid to sweat or dance crazy in public. She’s been on so many talk shows promoting the campaign, it’s great. I’m so cheesy that I think I actually cried a little when she was on some show and they did a segment with the dancing and kids got to meet her. She was so cool about it too.
Oh, and she does the dougie! At the Alice Deal School
4. She’s silly and witty

She and President Obama are not afraid to be silly in public. I think only pictures — and the videos above — can express this:

5. She’s a great support system

When I get married, I want to be the kind of wife to my husband as she is to Barack. Not that I know 100 percent what goes in their marriage, but from what I see, she’s his biggest support system. She never talks ill of him, he keeps his secrets, and you can tell that they are truly in love. I mean c’mon, did you see their dance at the inaugural ball? I think every woman went “Awww.”

There are other little things to that we love about her. Like how she shops at Target, how she’s a dog lover, how she’s a great role model, how she’s a great speaker, etc. But I’m guessing you don’t want to keep reading on.

What do you think of Mrs. O?

Looks like Beyonce might have a girl crush on her too..read her letter to Mrs. Obama.

The Virtual Break Up

Breaking up is hard to do.

Breaking up is even harder to do thanks to the Internet. If you are lucky, then your ex is on Twitter, Tumblr, Google+, Facebook & Flickr. Let the torture begin as you peruse his Tumblr blog while sobbing quietly to Alanis Morissette. Don’t worry, I’ve been there. Here’s six ways to avoid prolonging heartbreak in the digital age.

  1. Don’t check the “in a relationship” box on Facebook. People are going to get the hint that you’re no longer single when you upload tons of photos of your two smiling faces. Avoid the awkward questions and gossip if your status changes back to “single.”
  2. Unfollow him on Twitter. You’re going to check his Twitter page. You might as well make it so that you have to use Google to view it. The more difficult it is to see his stupid FourSquare check-ins, the better. The less his avatar shows up in your feed, the better.
  3. Block him on GChat. Right. Now. You may think you will never GChat him, but the day may come when you dangerously combine Chardonnay & the Internet. Even if you don’t, you will still wonder what he’s doing on the nights when he’s not shown as online. Stop torturing yourself and block him.
  4. Go do lots of fun things, smile and take tons of photos to upload to Facebook. Make sure he realizes what an awesome time you are having without him. Side effects include actually having fun without him.
  5. Reward yourself. Buy some nail polish, eat that extra cookie, go to a fancy dinner to reward yourself for not spending Friday night eating ice cream while stalking him, then Facebook stalking every female he has ever interacted with through social media.
  6. Delete your Google+ profile. Seriously, what do people use Google+ for? If your ex has a Google+ account, then make sure your next boyfriend isn’t a journalist or a web developer because those are the only people who are on Google+.

If all else fails, start writing blog posts for S&B about how you have started gardening or submit a photo for “Outfits of the Week.”

Things to Celebrate

It’s the last day of the Month! We can celebrate a new month to come — not that we have to pay rent (ugh). It also means it’s my sister’s birthday. Shout out to Emily Garton who is the best!

You have to be honest today as well. It’s National Honesty Day. I wonder what will come about with this lovely holiday.

It’s also Kirsten Dunst’s Birthday. I don’t know if I should dress up like a cheerleader, Mary Jane, or Marie Antoinette. They would all be so much fun. Or maybe I’ll just eat a bunch of cake like her version of Marie Antoinette did.

News to Know

Yesterday was Prince William and Kate Middleton’s First Year Anniversary — Top News, right? And who wants to rewatch the wedding and cry a bit? The royal couple didn’t do anything exciting, but of course people are thinking “maybe they stayed in to make a baby.” (E! News)

Rumors have started that the NYC Health Department is thinking about ending happy hour! They want to stop any kind of “discount-alcohol sale.” I know this will not be a hit in the city. There are already 19 states that prohibit happy hour, so it will be interesting to see what happens. (New York Post)

Even through a failed attempt of 4/20 KONY guerilla campaigns and the leader having an embarassing masturbation video posted, looks like the U.S. Special Forces are still going to help find Joseph Kony. More Special Forces mean better communication and technology to find Kony and finally have him arrested. (HuffPo)

Hello, official business week. Have a great Monday!
